Director Vetri Maaran has decided to close his production banner, Grass Root Film Company.
The director cited the immense pressure and struggles associated with being a producer.
His upcoming film, ‘Bad Girl’, will be the last project to be released under the banner.
Vetri Maaran explained that being a producer requires constant attention to every detail, including public comments and controversies, which he finds “taxing”.
He specifically mentioned the difficulties faced by two of his productions, ‘Bad Girl’ and ‘Manushi’, which were embroiled in controversies and faced scrutiny from the censor board.
The Madras High Court had to intervene in the case of ‘Manushi’. This decision comes as a shock to the industry, as Grass Root Film Company has been a launchpad for many critically acclaimed films like ‘Kaaka Muttai’, ‘Visaranai’, and ‘Kodi’.
