Producer Archana Kalpathi has clarified that the delay in Silambarasan’s upcoming film with director Ashwath Marimuthu is due to the filmmaker’s current commitment to Rajinikanth’s Dharman and not because of the actor’s schedule.
The project, tentatively titled ‘STR 51’, was announced last year and generated significant excitement among fans. Since then, speculation has grown over the lack of production updates.
Speaking about the film’s progress, Archana said the makers are waiting for Ashwath to complete Dharman before taking ‘STR 51’ to the sets. She expressed hope that work on the project would begin next year, while noting that the timeline depends entirely on the director’s availability.
She dismissed reports suggesting that Silambarasan’s ongoing commitments had delayed the venture. According to her, the original production plan allowed the actor to work simultaneously on ‘STR 51’ and Vetri Maaran’s ‘Arasan’.
Archana explained that Ashwath is known for spending considerable time refining his screenplay before production begins. She said he prefers locking the script in advance rather than making changes during filming or editing, a working style that the production team fully supports.
She also revealed that both her father and actor-director T. Rajendar encouraged Ashwath to take the time needed to complete the script. During that period, Silambarasan accepted Arasan, with an understanding that dates would be adjusted if ‘STR 51’ entered production.
However, those plans changed after Ashwath was offered the opportunity to direct Superstar Rajinikanth in ‘Dharman’. Archana described it as a major milestone in the filmmaker’s career and said the entire team decided to wait until he completed the prestigious project.
She added that the makers are looking forward to beginning ‘STR 51’ once ‘Dharman’ is completed and expressed confidence that the collaboration will move ahead after the Rajinikanth film’s release.
Earlier announcements indicated that STR 51 will be a fantasy romantic entertainer featuring Silambarasan in a distinctive role. The film is also expected to include Santhanam in the cast along with multiple female leads, while the remaining cast and technical crew are expected to be announced at a later stage.
