Actor Santhanam’s upcoming film ‘DD Next Level’, slated for release on 16 May, has run into controversy following a police complaint filed by BJP-affiliated lawyers.
Members of Jana Sena party had also approached AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami regarding the issue.
The controversy surrounds the film’s recently released single Kissa 47, which includes the phrase “Govinda Govinda,” commonly associated with Lord Perumal.
The complainants allege that the use of this religious reference in a comedic context is offensive and disrespectful to Hindu sentiments.
Now in a recent interview Santhanam has clarified about the issue.
“I am a devotee of Lord Perumal. Including the song was purely from my desire to feature a devotional element. There’s no intention of mockery. I believe in God and have a special liking for Perumal,” Santhanam said.
‘DD: Next Level’ is directed by Prem Anand. The cast includes Geethika Tiwari, Selvaraghavan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Nizhalgal Ravi, Rajendran, Kasthuri, Redin Kingsley, and Yashika Anand.
The film is produced by Niharika Entertainment and presented by actor Arya on behalf of The Show People.
