Kamal Haasan invited as voting member for Oscar’s 2025

In a momentous recognition of his unparalleled contribution to Indian and global cinema, veteran actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan has been invited to join the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as a voting member.
This highly esteemed invitation grants him the right to vote for the Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars.
The Academy announced its “Class of 2025” on Thursday night, extending invitations to 534 distinguished artists and executives from around the world.
Kamal Haasan’s inclusion underscores his immense global standing and a career spanning over six decades and more than 230 films, marked by his versatility and commitment to groundbreaking storytelling.
Joining Haasan from India in this year’s list are other notable talents, including actor Ayushmann Khurrana, filmmaker Payal Kapadia, casting director Karan Mally, cinematographer Ranabir Das, costume designer Maxima Basu, and documentary filmmaker Smriti Mundhra.
This diverse group highlights the Academy’s ongoing efforts to promote global representation and inclusivity within its ranks.
