Ahead of the release of his directorial debut ‘Sigma’, Jason Sanjay has shared rare insights into his personal life, his relationship with his parents and the responsibility he feels after his father, Vijay, became Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister.
In an interview with Behindwoods, Jason described his father’s rise to the state’s top political office as a landmark moment for the family. He said the development brings with it a greater sense of responsibility for him, his sister and the rest of the family, adding that they now have a legacy to uphold.
Jason also recalled the guidance Vijay offered when he decided to pursue a career in films. According to him, his father encouraged him to establish his own identity rather than rely on the family name. While Vijay assured him of support whenever needed, he insisted that Jason should carve out his own path in the industry.
Speaking about his mother, Sangeetha, Jason shared a lighter side of family life. He joked that she somehow always knew what he was up to, even when he tried to keep things from the family, describing her as someone who never misses a thing.
The young filmmaker also looked back on his brief appearance in the song “Naan Adicha Thaangamatta” from ‘Vettaikaaran’. Jason said he has only faint memories of the shoot, recalling that he simply wore the costume, responded to the director’s cue and ran to hug his father during the sequence. He added that those childhood experiences on film sets often come back to him now that he is directing his own project.
When asked whether he inherited Vijay’s dancing skills, Jason responded modestly, saying dancing requires constant practice and that he does not consider himself a naturally gifted performer. He also requested fans not to compare him with his father.
Jason is preparing for his first outing as a director with ‘Sigma’, a project that has generated considerable curiosity among moviegoers. Besides directing the film, he is also expected to make a special appearance in one of its songs. His candid interview has become one of the talking points surrounding the film’s promotions, giving audiences a glimpse of his personality beyond his famous family background.
