Director Shankar had recently confirmed that the South Africa schedule of “Indian 2′ has been wrapped up. Starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role the team had been shooting in South Africa for an intense train action sequence. ‘Indian 2’ is not the first Tamil film to be shot in Africa. Let us take a look at some of the iconic Kollywood movies that were shot in Africa.
Ayan:
In the spy thriller “Ayan,” one of the greatest Tamil movies ever made, Suriya worked with director KV Anand for the first time. KV Anand, a former cinematographer who later became a director, shot the movie in a number of foreign countries. KV Anand and Suriya filmed in African nations like Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zanzibar for the movie, which deals with the smuggling of gold and diamonds. Through the movie, they inspired audiences to travel to some breathtaking destinations.
Maryan:
In 2013, Dhanush’s “Maryan,” directed by Bharat Bala was released. It was based on a newspaper article about a human survival story. Dhanush portrayed a young person who, in order to survive, travels abroad and ends up being detained while working in Sudan. Although the movie’s sandy settings were really filmed in Liberia, Sudan was made to appear to the audience.
Singam 2:
The “Singam” series in the combination of Suriya and Hari needs no introduction. The climax portion of “Singam 2” was shot in Kenya. During the climax it is shown that Durai Singam (Suriya) travels to South Africa to apprehend the villain Danny (Danny Sapani). However the scene was actually shot in Kenya but was presented to the public as taking place in South Africa.
Thirupachi:
Starring Vijay in the lead role, the movie directed by Perarasu is one of the biggest hits in the actor’s career. Despite planning to shoot in Thirupachi, a village near Madurai – Ramanathapuram border, Perarasu opted against shooting there as it may create traffic problems instead the village portions were shot in Karaikudi. A song ‘Kannum Kannum’ from the movie was shot in South Africa.
