Following in the footsteps of her talented parents, actors Suriya and Jyothika, Diya Suriya has officially entered the film industry, not as an actor, but as a director.
The 17-year-old has made her directorial debut with the docu-drama short film, ‘Leading Light’.
The 13-minute film, which is also written by Diya, focuses on the seldom-told stories of women gaffers in Bollywood.
These gaffers are the skilled technicians responsible for working with lighting on film sets, a profession often dominated by men.
The documentary sheds light on their experiences, celebrating their resilience, physical demands, and invaluable contributions to cinema.
The film features intimate interviews with pioneers in the field, including Hetall Deddhia, Priyanka Singh, and Leena Gangurde.
Leading Light is supported and produced by her parents under their production banner, and it is currently undergoing an Oscar Qualifying Run at the Regency Theatre in Los Angeles.
