‘Selfie’ directed by Mathi Maran is about how parents are exploited by colleges and middlemen to get admission in reputed colleges.
The movie explores in detail how the cash flow takes place from the parents to middlemen and then to the college management.
Kanal is unwillingly admitted to a college in the city. He comes to know that his father paid a hefty amount to get the college seat.
Very soon he is attracted by the money that a middleman gets in getting a college seat admission. He joins the gang and becomes an agent himself. Kanal soon rises in rank and crosses paths with the leader Ravi Varma.
He also makes a lot of enemies during his journey. What happens next forms the rest of the story. GV Prakash is impressive as Kanal.
His character undergoes several emotions and Prakash has done complete justice to the role.
He shines in the emotional scenes especially when he understands the sacrifices of his father. Gautham Vasudev Menon had delivered a subtle yet menacing performance.
Varsha Bollama has done her part well. Sangili Murugan is aptly cast in the role of the educationist. Vaagai Chandrasekar once again showcases his seasoned acting.
Rest of the cast have also performed well. Vishnu Rangasamy’s camera work is impressive. As usual GVP’s BGM stands out.
Director Mathi Maran should be appreciated for the efforts that he has put to get the details in a convincing manner.
