Struggles of survivors
‘Ottrai Pani Maram’
– Movie Review
The story then jumps to February 2012, focusing on three survivors Puthiyavan Rasiah,Navayuga kugaraja, and a young, autistic woman.
The struggles of these characters, the discrimination that they face, were they able to overcome it forms the core plot of the movie.
Director Rasiah’s minimalist approach is a standout feature of the movie. The runtime of 106 minutes is one of the movie’s added strengths.
Rasiah’s direction ensures that every frame captures the emotional weight of the story, drawing us into the struggles of these survivors as they navigate life in a rehabilitation camp.
The film’s slow pacing allows the viewer to fully engage with the emotional depth of the story without feeling overwhelmed.
Puthiyavan Rasiah captures the inner turmoil of a man torn between grief and the need to move forward.
Navayuga Kugaraja’s portrayal, marked by her refusal to be pitied, is both heartbreaking and inspiring, making her one of the film’s most memorable characters.
Mahinda Abeysinghe’s camerawork has captured the war zone and the emotions of the survivors in its raw form. The plot is complemented well by Ashwamithra’s background score. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are impressive as well.
