80s Buildup –  Review by Naveen

Santhanam shines in this comedy caper

80s Buildup

– Review
Sunder Rajan is from a Zamin family who dies after swallowing the diamonds of a smuggling group. Santhanam and Sangeetha are the grandchildren of Sunder Rajan.
Sangeetha bets against Santhanam saying that he cannot make their distant cousin Radhika Preethi fall in love with him before the final rites of their grandfather.
This bet between the siblings forms the centre stage of the film. On the other hand, the smuggling group comprising of Mansoor Ali Khan, Manobala and Mottai Rajendran try to recover the diamonds.
Was Santhanam successful in the bet, what happened to the gangsters forms the rest of the story.
Directed by N Kalyan, the movie has a handful of one-liners that have worked out really well. However, the entire potential of the plot does not seem to have been utilised effectively.
A little more effort in the writing department would have worked wonders for the film.
Santhanam is in his element, he has carried the entire movie on his shoulders.
The way in which he imitates the 80s heros takes the audience back to the Lollu Sabha days.
Sangeetha and Radhika Preethi have done their part well. Rest of the cast including Aadukalam Naren, Anand Raj, Mansoor and Sunder Rajan have all delivered what was expected from them.
Ghibran’s background score and songs are good. Rest of the technical aspects are passable.
Rating: 3.5/5
