Vels University and Director Vetrimaaran Jointly Host a Five-Day Festival Honouring Legendary Filmmaker Bharathiraja
To celebrate the remarkable contributions of veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, who revolutionized Tamil cinema with his realistic storytelling and social vision, the Department of Visual Communication at Vels University, in collaboration with Director Vetrimaaran’s International Institute of Film and Culture (IIFC), is organizing a five-day film festival from November 7 to 11, 2025.
The festival aims to pay tribute to Bharathiraja’s creative genius and his pivotal role in shaping the identity of Tamil cinema.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Former Chennai Mayor Mr. Saidai Duraisamy, actor Sathyaraj, Director Ameer, Director Vetrimaaran, Actress Rekha, and Founder Chancellor of Vels University and Producer of Vels Film International, Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh.
Speaking at the event, Director Vetrimaaran stated that the festival would serve as a grand celebration of Bharathiraja’s artistic brilliance, social commitment, and his transformative impact on Tamil cinema.
Following the inauguration, Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, Founder Chancellor of Vels University, addressed the media and said:“It gives me immense pride to host this festival in honour of a true legend, Director Bharathiraja. Over the next five days, several renowned film personalities will participate in the celebrations. Earlier, we organized a similar tribute for Director Balu Mahendra, which was a memorable experience, and this occasion brings me the same joy.
I am also delighted to share that the much-awaited Vada Chennai 2 will soon commence production with actor Dhanush in the lead role. I have requested Director Vetrimaaran to offer a significant role to actor Sathyaraj in the film, and I am confident he will consider it positively.”
The event stands as a heartfelt tribute to the man who gave voice and identity to Tamil cinema through his unforgettable works.

.தமிழ் திரை உலக வரலாற்றில் மறக்க முடியாத இயக்குநர் பாரதிராஜா அவர்கள் தமிழ் சினிமாவிற்கு ஆற்றிய பங்களிப்பை சிறப்பிக்கும் வகையில், வேல்ஸ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் காட்சி தொடர்பியல் துறை மற்றும் இயக்குநர் வெற்றிமாறன் அவர்களின் பன்னாட்டு திரை – பண்பாட்டு ஆய்வகம் இணைந்து, நவம்பர் 7 முதல் 11 ஆம் தேதி வரை அவரது படைப்புகளை போற்றும் வகையில் பெருவிழா நடத்துகிறது.
இந்த விழாவில் சென்னை மாநகராட்சி முன்னாள் மேயர் திரு.சைதை துரைசாமி, நடிகர் சத்யராஜ், இயக்குநர் அமீர், இயக்குநர் வெற்றிமாறன், நடிகை ரேகா, மற்றும் வேல்ஸ் பல்கலைக்கழக நிறுவனர் வேந்தர் டாக்டர் ஐசரி கே. கணேஷ் ஆகியோர் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக கலந்து கொண்டனர்.இவ்விழா, பாரதிராஜா அவர்களின் படைப்பாற்றல், சமூக உணர்வு மற்றும் தமிழ் சினிமாவிற்கு அவர் அளித்த மாற்றங்களை கொண்டாடும் பெரும் திரை விழாவாக அமையும் என்று இயக்குநர் வெற்றிமாறன் தெரிவித்தார்.
விழாவுக்கு பின்னர் செய்தியாளர்களை சந்தித்த வேல்ஸ் பல்கலைக்கழக நிறுவன வேந்தர் டாக்டர் ஐசரி கே. கணேஷ் அவர்கள்,“இயக்குநர் இமயத்திற்கு விழா நடத்துவதில் பெருமகிழ்ச்சி கொள்கிறேன். 5 நாட்கள் நடைபெறும் இந்த விழாவில் பல்வேறு திரைப்பிரபலங்கள் கலந்து கொள்கின்றனர். கடந்த முறை இயக்குநர் பாலுமகேந்திரா அவர்களுக்கு விழா நடத்தியபோது ஏற்பட்ட மகிழ்ச்சி இன்றும் மீண்டும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.மேலும், நீங்கள் அனைவரும் எதிர்பார்த்த வடசென்னை 2 விரைவில் தொடங்கவிருக்கிறது. அதில் நடிகர் தனுஷ் கதாநாயகனாக நடிக்கிறார். அதேபோல் நடிகர் சத்யராஜ் அவர்களுக்கும் படத்தில் சிறந்த கதாப்பாத்திரம் வழங்க வேண்டும் என்று இயக்குநர் வெற்றிமாறன் அவர்களிடம் கோரிக்கை வைத்துள்ளேன்; அதை அவர் ஏற்றுக் கொள்வார் என நம்புகிறேன்,” என்று தெரிவித்தார்.
