The film production house of actor Ravi Mohan, Ravi Mohan Studios Private Limited, is currently embroiled in a legal battle concerning the title of its upcoming film, ‘Bro Code’.
The dispute was initiated by Indospirit Beverages, which filed a trademark infringement suit arguing that the film’s title is identical to their popular ‘BROCODE’ alcoholic beverage brand, which was launched in 2015.
The Delhi High Court granted an interim injunction, restricting the studio from using the ‘BRO CODE’ mark in any promotional material, trailers, or posters, concluding that the identical use was likely to cause confusion among consumers and harm the beverage company’s established goodwill.
The studio had previously secured a temporary order from the Madras High Court in their favour, but the Delhi High Court’s ruling, which is restricted to the title’s use in promotions, has created a significant hurdle for the film, with the next hearing scheduled for December 23.
