Director Mohan G’s historical sequel ‘Draupathi 2’ has hit a significant roadblock overseas, with reports confirming a ban in Qatar.
Authorities cited the film’s portrayal of sensitive 14th-century historical events—specifically themes involving the Hoysala Kingdom and Mughal invasions—as the reason for the restriction.
Domestically, the film narrowly escaped a stay on its release after the Madras High Court refused to intervene in a petition claiming the film misrepresents the community identity of King Veeravallala Devan.

Justice Vijayakumar ruled that since the Censor Board had already granted a U/A certificate, the court would not interfere with the film’s scheduled debut on January 23, 2026.

Starring Richard Rishi, the film continues to be a lightning rod for debate on social media, with fans and critics divided over its ideological narratives and historical accuracy.
