“Yogi Da”

– Review

Inspector Yogeshwari (Sai Dhanshika), is a fearless and upright police officer whose refusal to compromise on her ethics earns her frequent “punishment transfers.”
The story kicks off when she unmasks a high-profile “suicide” in Coimbatore as a cold-blooded murder committed by a powerful textile mill owner’s son.
Her reward? A transfer to the volatile neighborhood of Vyasarpadi in North Chennai.
There, she locks horns with the ruthless local don, Shekar Babu (Kabir Duhan Singh), and his politically influential brother.
The narrative focuses on her relentless battle to dismantle their criminal empire despite systemic rot and threats to her life.
Director Goutham Krishna successfully crafts a “style-heavy” actioner that honors the legacy of Sai Dhanshika’s iconic Kabali persona.
His execution is focused on high-energy sequences and powerful dialogue delivery that keeps the audience hooked.
By blending commercial elements with a sensitive social message regarding violence against women, he ensures the film is both entertaining and meaningful.
The director’s commitment to grounded, realistic action makes every “mass” moment feel earned and impactful.
In a career-best action role, Sai Dhanshika is a revelation. Performing all her own stunts without a body double, she brings an incredible physical authenticity and fierce determination to Inspector Yogi. She isn’t just a hero; she is a force of nature.
Kabir Duhan Singh serves as a formidable antagonist, bringing a chilling intensity that makes the hero’s eventual triumph feel even more satisfying.
The ensemble is bolstered by veteran Sayaji Shinde, who brings gravitas to the political drama, and the late Manobala, whose presence adds a layer of warmth to the film.
Music composer Deepak Dev delivers a thumping, aggressive background score that perfectly mirrors Yogi’s relentless spirit, amplifying the tension in every confrontation.
S.K.A. Boopathi’s gritty visuals capture the raw essence of North Chennai, while G. Sasikumar’s sharp editing keeps the 119-minute runtime moving at a breakneck pace.
