Vishnu Vishal gets candid about his long battle with anxiety and depression

Actor and producer Vishnu Vishal has shared an emotional account of his struggle with anxiety and depression, opening up about the personal and professional pressures he has faced during his journey in the film industry.

In a detailed post on X, Vishnu revealed that his mental health difficulties began around 2018. He said the period followed a setback in his personal life after the success of ‘Ratsasan’.

Initially, the actor believed that concentrating more on his career would help him move past the difficult phase. However, the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic added to his anxiety and made the situation more challenging.

Vishnu also spoke about the unpredictable nature of the film industry. He recalled instances where commitments made by producers and directors did not work out as expected. On some occasions, he said, he kept his dates aside for projects for several months but eventually found himself without work or payment for the time he had committed.

The responsibilities involved in running his production house also contributed to the pressure. Managing finances, arranging funds and dealing with the uncertainties surrounding film projects became additional sources of stress.

The actor said he has sought professional help throughout the years, including counselling and regular therapy. He also revealed that he had taken medication for anxiety and depression on certain occasions, under professional guidance.

Reflecting on his career, Vishnu recalled that his ambition began at a young age, when he started playing cricket at 13. He had always wanted to achieve success and have his work recognised.

However, he now feels that his constant pursuit of major achievements sometimes came at the cost of appreciating the smaller moments in life.

One of his key realisations, he said, was that achieving another major success would not permanently resolve his emotional struggles.

Even after experiencing professional milestones, including the recent success of ‘Gatta Kusthi 2’, Vishnu said he realised that external achievements had not necessarily changed how he felt inside.

His candid note has offered fans a glimpse into the less visible pressures faced by actors and filmmakers, particularly the uncertainty surrounding careers, finances and the constant expectation to deliver successful films.
