Cricket has always been a part and parcel of Kollywood as there are several movie which are made based on the game and the players. Some of the hit cricket based movies include the ‘Chennai-28’ franchise, ‘Potta Potti’, ‘Dhoni’, ‘Jeeva’, ‘Kanaa’ and the recently released ’83’ and ‘800’.
However, the year 2024 will be special for cricket and Kollywood as multiple films with sports as the background are likely to be released. Let us take a look at some of the cricket based movies which are in the making.
‘Lal Salaam’:
Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the movie features key roles played by Kapil Dev, Jeevitha Rajasekhar, and Nirosha. Produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, this pan-Indian project is enriched with the musical compositions of AR Rahman.
Featuring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, with a special role played by Rajinikanth, is set to grace the big screens during Pongal 2024.
The teaser which was released recently unfolds as a captivating social drama, initiating with a cricket match resembling an Indo-Pak encounter.
‘Blue Star’:
Directed by S Jayakumar the film stars Ashok Selvan,Keerthi Pandian,Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Dhivya Duraisamy.
It is said that the movie is based in Arakkonam and follows the rivalry between two groups playing cricket.
The movie is jointly produced by Pa Ranjith under his production banner Neelam Productions along with R.Ganesh Murthy and GSoundarya under Lemon Leaf Production Pvt Ltd. The
The film features music composed by Govind Vasantha. While the release is slated for this year, an official date is yet to be disclosed by the producers.
‘Lubber Pandhu’:
‘Lubber Pandhu’ is a Tamil drama movie written and directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu starring Harish Kalyan, Attakathi Dinesh, Swasika.
The project is billed as an intense sports drama based on cricket. This is the first time that Harish Kalyan and Dinesh are coming together for a film.
While Sean Roldan has scored the music, Dinesh Purushothaman has handled the cinematography and G Madan is the editor.
‘Test’:
Nayanthara, R Madhavan and Siddharth are joining together for a new film called ‘Test’.
The film which is touted to be a sports drama is directed by S Sashikanth.
The film’s motion poster which came out earlier hinted at how the film is a sports drama and revolves around the world of cricket.
The movie also has actors Meera Jasmine and Kaali Venkat in prominent roles with singer-turned-music composer Shakthisree Gopalan crafting the music in it.
The film is bankrolled by Chakravarthy Ramachandran and Sasikanth under Y Not Studios.
