Super heroes of Tamil cinema 

Hip Hop Tamizha Aadhi’s ‘Veeran’ is here. Billed to be a superhero movie, the film is directed by ARK Saravanan. The story is set in the village Veeranur, showcasing the origin of a superhero who rises to create awareness among the people against scientific hazards.
Let us take a look at some of the super hero based movies that have been released in recent times in Tamil cinema.

Mugamoodi:

Written and directed by Mysskin, the movie stars Jiiva, Narain, and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The film is about a martial artist who cannot tolerate injustice and corruption and hence turns into a vigilante to fight against it for a better society. Mugamoodi received mixed reviews from critics.

Kanthaswamy:

The movie is about how a CBI officer moonlights as a modern day Robin Hood in the guise of the masked Kanthaswamy, as he helps fight corruption and aid impoverished people. Written and directed by Susi Ganesan, the movie has Vikram, Shriya and Prabhu in the lead roles. Kanthaswamy received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for Vikram and Shriya’s performances, soundtrack, background score, and plot. However the film’s writing, editing and length received criticism.

Endhiran:

Directed by Shankar the movie had Superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. Rajnikanth is a scientist who develops his brainchild, a robot. Names it `Chitty’ and teaches every single thing that this universe can hold. `Chitty’ is programmed to learn and know everything except for human emotions and when that is taught, how it reacts. Enthiran became the top-earning Indian film of 2010.

Velayutham:

Vijay is a village guy who stays with his widowed mother and sister. Due to his sister’s marriage Vijay will come to Chennai to receive the amount he saved in a chit fund company. There he assumes the identity of Velayutham, a fictional character created by Genelia to fight against the underworld don. Directed by Mohan Raja, the movie opened to mixed reviews.

Hero:

Hero is directed by P S Mithran and has Sivakarthikeyan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles. As a young boy Sivakarthikeyan dreams of becoming a superhero like Shaktimaan. After becoming an adult Sivakarthikeyan produces fake degree certificates as a mark of protest against the education system. But soon Sivakarthikeyan takes the identity as hero. The movie had a strong message and opened to mixed reviews.
