Soori’s ‘Mandaadi’ crosses major milestones ahead of Netflix premiere

Soori’s ‘Mandaadi’, which has emerged as the biggest success of his career as a lead actor, is heading to the digital platform following its successful theatrical run.

Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, the Tamil film has attracted attention for its coastal setting, action sequences and depiction of traditional sailboat racing.

Soori plays Muthukaali, a talented boat racer whose life takes an unexpected turn before he finds himself drawn back into the sport. Suhas plays a key role as his rival, with the story revolving around the competition between two teams and the high stakes attached to the annual race.

The film features Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva in important roles.

‘Mandaadi’ will begin streaming on Netflix from October 8. The digital release comes soon after the film achieved significant box-office milestones, with its makers announcing that it had crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India and Rs 150 crore worldwide.

The film has also received praise from prominent members of the Tamil film industry. Director Vetrimaaran, who has previously collaborated with Soori, appreciated the actor’s work, while Kamal Haasan praised the film after attending a special screening. Rajinikanth has also extended his appreciation to the team.

Produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner, the film has music by GV Prakash Kumar. SR Kathir is the cinematographer and Pradeep E Ragav has handled the editing. The sailing and action portions were mounted on a large scale, with Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew involved in the stunt choreography.
