Shruti, who recently confirmed her single status after her breakup with long-term boyfriend Shantanu Hazarika, said, “I just want to say I am petrified of the idea of marriage. I have worked so hard my whole life to be my own person. The idea of attaching it by a piece of paper feels really scary to me. That’s it.”
However, she was quick to clarify that her apprehension about marriage does not extend to her belief in commitment, loyalty, and the beautiful principles marriage is supposed to represent. “I believe in commitment, I believe in loyalty and I believe in all those beautiful things that marriage is supposed to represent. I can do that on my own. I don’t need a piece of paper,” she stated.
When asked if she was close to getting married in the past, Shruti admitted, “Yes.” She attributed the non-occurrence to “incompatibility,” explaining, “It wasn’t my fault. It was incompatibility. Because that’s a future – that’s potential children, that’s so many things.” While marriage may not be on her cards, Shruti has consistently expressed her desire to be a mother, stating, “I have always wanted to be a mother. But I have never wanted to be a single mother, because two parents are important for a child.”
