‘Retro’ extended version to be released on Netflix?

Fans of Suriya and Pooja Hegde’s recently released film ‘Retro’ might soon get to experience a significantly extended version of the story.

Director Karthik Subbaraj is reportedly in active discussions with Netflix to release an extended cut of the romantic action drama as a web series.

While ‘Retro’ premiered on Netflix on May 31, after its theatrical run, sources indicate that Subbaraj originally conceived the narrative with a much broader scope.

He is now keen on presenting this more detailed version, which he believes would delve deeper into the film’s emotional arcs, action sequences, and the intricate themes of spirituality, cults, and comedy that were perhaps condensed for the big screen.

According to the director, this extended version could span around 5-6 episodes, each with a runtime of 30-40 minutes.

He revealed in recent interviews that he has a substantial amount of footage already available that was trimmed from the theatrical release.

This material would allow for a more elaborate exploration of characters, their motivations, and the unique world he built for ‘Retro’.

“It’s not just about deleted scenes,” Subbaraj was quoted as saying. “The emotions will be deeper, and the action scenes will have more detailing. The film has many exciting episodes about laughter, spiritual, and cult angles, each lasting about 40 minutes,” he added.
