Re-releasing movies that had been re-released earlier has become a recent trend in Kollywood industry. Here are a few movies which gained massive hits through re-release.
‘Nayagan’:
Mani Ratnam’s ‘Nayagan’ starring Kamal Haasan is gearing up for a re- release after 34 years, and the makers have locked a date for the film’s re-release.
A new poster has been unveiled by the makers to announce the re-release of ‘Nayagan’ and the film. is set to occupy the big screens one more time from November 3.
Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Nayagan’ is one of the cult classic hits in Tamil, and the Mani Ratnam directorial is an inspiration for many.
‘Pesum Padam’:
Kamal Haasan’s classic film ‘Pesumpadam’ is reportedly said to re- release in theatres soon.
The 1987 film directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is a silent romantic dark comedy film.
The movie’s plot revolves around an unemployed graduate and the Kamal Haasan’s production house took to social media on September 16 to announce that the film will be re-released in theatres.
‘Baba’:
Directed by Suresh Krissna, ‘Baba’ was initially released in 2002. The supernatural action film starred Superstar Rajinikanth and Manisha Koirala in the lead roles. The music for the movie was composed by AR Rahman. The film was released in theaters this year with a new version of Rajinikanth’s voiceover towards the end of the film.
‘Vettaiyadu Vilayadu’:
Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the cult classic cop drama was first released in 2006. The movie starred Kamal Haasan and Jyothika in lead roles, and the music for the movie was composed by Harris Jayaraj. The film was re-released in theaters in June 2023, and it was well received.
‘Subramaniapuram:
Directed by Sasikumar, ‘Subramaniapuram’ was released in 2008 in theaters. The film starred Sasikumar and Jai in lead roles, along with Samuthrakani and Seathi Reddy.
The music for the film was composed by James Vasanthan. The movie, after 15 years, is was re-released in theaters on August 4.
‘Surya S/o Krishnan’ aka ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’:
Suriya’s cult blockbuster Surya S/o Krishnan (2008) was re-released in theatres on 4 August. Surya S/o Krishnan, which was released in erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh some 15 years ago, was a smashing hit.
This Gautam Vasudev Menon directorial titled ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ in Tamil earned massive revenues as it went on to become a cult hit in the career of Suriya.
