Raghava Lawrence to distribute 5,000 silk sarees to rural women on his birthday

Marking two decades of charitable service, actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has unveiled a new initiative to bring joy to women in rural areas. The programme, named Larencce Charitable Trust – The Pattu Saree Scheme, will begin with the distribution of 5,000 silk sarees.
Lawrence announced the initiative on X on Sunday, reflecting on the charitable trust’s journey over the past 20 years. During this period, the organisation has supported several causes, including children’s education, heart surgeries, assistance for people with physical disabilities and food distribution.
Sharing the personal experience that led to the new initiative, Lawrence recalled meeting a woman during one of his visits to serve people in need. She handed him a letter expressing her wish to own a beautiful silk saree.
Her heartfelt request prompted him to think about the many women in rural communities who might never have had the chance to own or wear a traditional pattu saree. The encounter inspired him to turn that thought into a charitable programme, beginning with 5,000 sarees.
Lawrence explained that the initiative was driven by a simple intention: to bring happiness to women and receive their blessings. The announcement adds another programme to the trust’s ongoing efforts to support underserved communities.
The actor has scheduled the launch for October 29, which coincides with his birthday. The initiative will begin in Royapuram, a neighbourhood where he spent a considerable part of his childhood.
Seeking the public’s blessings and support for the new endeavour, Lawrence reiterated his commitment to helping those in need. He concluded his announcement with a message that captures the philosophy behind his charitable work: “Service is God.”
