The South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA) (Nadigar Sangam) has passed a resolution to ban perpetrators of sex offences from the Tamil film industry for a period of five years.
The move comes in the wake of the Hema Committee report which highlighted sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry.
The Nadigar Sangam and its Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC) convened a crucial meeting in Chennai.
The meeting resulted in several resolutions aimed at addressing sexual harassment and providing support to people within the industry.
One of the key resolutions passed by the committee recommends a five-year ban on perpetrators of sexual offences in the film industry if a complaint lodged is found to be true after thorough investigation. This recommendation will be forwarded to the Producers Association for implementation.
The committee also said it would provide legal help to people who come forward with complaints.
Actor Khushbu Sundar, who was present at the meeting, said that the resolutions passed in this meeting will be further discussed at the General Committee meeting of the Nadigar Sangam, scheduled for September 8.
