Hey Sinamika starring Dulquer Salman, Aditi Rao and Kajal Agarwal is releasing today. Choreographer Brindha is making her directorial debut with this movie. Expectations are already sky high as this will be Dulquer’s Salmaan’s direct Tamil film after ‘Kannum Kannum Kollyaidhital’ which had a good response. With the movie billed to be based on the relationship between husband and wife, let us take a look at some of the prominent Tamil films which were based on the same theme.
Mouna Ragam:
Directed by Mani Ratnam the movie narrates the story of Revathi, a college girl who is forced to marry Mohan. Revathi has been secretly mourning the death of her former lover Karthik who was shot dead. The movie follows Divya’s inner conflict between holding on to the past and coming to terms with her marriage life. Mouna Ragam provides insight into the issues faced by married couples, exploring the plight and perception of divorce.
Panchathanthiram:
Kamal Haasan is a Canada-based Indian Pilot who quits his playboy character to marry Simran. Mythili misunderstands a situtaion when Kamal tries to talk his friend’s ex-girlfriend from committing suicide. She leaves him to be with her parents. To take his mind from Mythili, Ram’s friend takes him to Bengaluru to rent a room and hire a call girl Ramya Krishnan. How all this affects Ram’s marriage life forms the rest of the story. The movie directed by K S Ravikumar has dialogues by Crazy Mohan.
Sathi Leelavathi:
Ramesh Arvind is married to Leelavathi but does not like her due to her looks. He falls in love with Heera who works in a building construction company. He hides from her the fact that he is married and has an affair with her. They go on a trip to Bengaluru where Ramesh’s friend Kamal Haasan sees them and finds out about their affair. When Priya returns to Chennai, she comes to know the truth about Ramesh’s marriage but decides to stay with him. What happens next forms the rest of the story. The movie was directed by Balu Mahendra and had a story by Ananthu.
Jillunu Oru Kaadhal:
Surya is married to Jyothika and lives happily with his daughter. He is a mechanic for a major car company in mumbai. All goes well before Jyothika finds Surya’s personal diary which reveals an entirely different version of him – his college days and his failed love story with Bhoomika. Jo decides to bring them together and what happens next forms the climax. The movie is directed by N Krishna and produced by K E Gnanavel Raja. Songs by A R Rahman were huge hits.
Raja Rani:
Arya and Regina Nayanatara get married to each other to fulfil the wishes of their parents. They do not like each other and constantly quarrel over small things. One day Nayanthara suffers an attack of fits and she is admitted to the hospital. Arya discovers that she has a tragic love story. At about the same time, Regina comes to known about the failed love story of Arya, and she too develops respect towards her husband. Meanwhile, Regina gets an offer to work in Australia for a while. What happens next forms the rest of the story. The movie is directed by Atlee and has music by G V Prakash. This movie proved to be a turning point in the careers of Arya and Nayanthara and gave a major breakthrough for Atlee.
