Despite all the precautionary measures taken at the shooting spots, accidents are bound to happen. Recently, a stuntman died on the sets of ‘Sardar 2’. The stuntman named Elumalai fell 20 ft from a rostrum while shooting an action sequence and was rushed to the hospital. He died due to an internal haemorrhage. Let us take a look at some of the recent major accidents that took place in shooting spots of Kollywood movies in the recent past.
‘Kanguva’:
Suriya, who is awaiting the release of ‘Kanguva’, had a narrow escape on the sets after a rope camera collapsed during filming at EVP city in Chennai. Suriya was filming an intense action scene during which the rope camera collapsed, leading to the accident. It is fortunate that Suriya had a narrow escape by a few inches or things would have taken a sour turn.
‘Vidaa Muyarchi’:
Ajith’s car met with an accident while filming a high-octane action sequence for his upcoming film, ‘Vidaa Muyarchi’, in Azerbaijan. A couple of videos of the accident were shared by Ajith’s publicist on his official X handle. In a video shared online, Ajith is seen driving the car, with his ‘Vidaa Muyarchi’ co-actor and ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’ season one winner Aarav Kizar seated beside him. Aarav appears with his hands bound, and his neck taped to the back of the seat.
‘Mark Antony’:
Vishal miraculously escaped from a near-death situation during the shooting of ‘Mark Antony’. It happened when a truck on the sets lost stability and advanced towards the actor and his co-actors. The huge truck was on the brink of crashing into the place where the actors, including Vishal, were stationed. Fortunately, each one of them escaped unscathed.
‘Indian 2’:
Kamal Haasan teamed up with director Shankar for ‘Indian 2’ and the shooting for the movie came to a halt when a crane used in the set, broke and fell on the workers in the set in 2020. Three died and 10 were injured in the accident. Shooting for the movie was stopped for almost two years following the accident.
‘Viduthalai’:
S Suresh, a stunt master working for director Vetrimaaran’s upcoming film ‘Viduthalai’, passed away after an accident at the shooting site. The incident happened during a shoot in Chennai’s Kelambakkam, despite safety precautions being in place, he added. Suresh is survived by his wife and a daughter. He was 54 years old. The accident happened while he was demonstrating a jumping stunt. Although all safety precautions were taken.
‘Pichaikaran 2’:
Actor Vijay Antony was severely injured while shooting for his upcoming film, ‘Pichaikkaran 2’, in Malaysia. Vijay Antony got hit on the face and chest, and was left with bleeding lips. Kavya Thapar, who was also on the boat with Vijay Antony, suffered an injury on her head. Vijay Antony underwent major surgery after this.
