The release of actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s ‘Jananayagan’ today was marked by large-scale celebrations across Tamil Nadu, with thousands of fans and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres gathering outside cinema halls to welcome the film.
Screened in approximately 1,000 theatres across the State, the film recorded a strong opening as audiences thronged theatres from the early hours. Many multiplexes and single-screen cinemas scheduled special early morning shows to accommodate the heavy demand.
Theatres in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelveli, Vellore and several other districts witnessed colourful celebrations. Giant cut-outs of Vijay were decorated with garlands, while fans performed traditional drum processions, burst crackers and distributed sweets to mark the occasion.
TVK cadres joined the celebrations in large numbers, describing the release as a memorable moment for the party’s leader. Party flags and banners were displayed outside several theatres, and supporters arrived wearing scarves and T-shirts carrying Vijay’s image and the party symbol.
The festive atmosphere continued throughout the day, with many fans dancing to songs from the film before entering theatres. Some fan associations also organised welfare initiatives such as food distribution, blood donation camps and refreshments for moviegoers alongside the celebrations.
Cinema operators reported encouraging occupancy across most centres, with advance bookings remaining robust through the opening day. Additional security arrangements were made at several high-footfall locations to manage crowds and maintain public order.
Directed by H. Vinoth and backed by KVN Productions, ‘Jananayagan’ has generated exceptional interest as it is Vijay’s first theatrical release after assuming office as Chief Minister and his last film as actor. The combination of his cinematic popularity and political profile made the film one of the most anticipated Tamil releases in recent years.
Industry observers expect the film to maintain strong momentum over the opening weekend, supported by positive advance sales and sustained audience interest across Tamil Nadu.
