‘Jailer 2’ clears censorship with UA 16+ certificate; Rajinikanth film gets 165-minute runtime

Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited action entertainer ‘Jailer 2’ has completed its censor formalities ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on October 15. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has been awarded a UA 16+ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification.

The film’s official runtime has been fixed at 165 minutes and 18 seconds, making it a nearly two-hour-45-minute theatrical experience. The certification details were updated on the CBFC website on Tuesday.

Produced by Sun Pictures, ‘Jailer 2’ is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster ‘Jailer’. The superstar returns as Muthuvel Pandian, while several familiar faces from the first instalment are also part of the sequel.

The follow-up has expanded its ensemble considerably. Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar are returning to the franchise, while actors including SJ Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu are among the prominent additions.

The film reunites Rajinikanth with Nelson and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Sun Pictures has officially announced October 15 as the release date.  With the censor process now completed, attention is shifting towards the final promotional campaign before the film arrives in theatres.
