Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ is generating considerable excitement ahead of its scheduled October 15 release, with reported advance-booking collections crossing ₹41 crore for the film’s opening three days.
Figures attributed to box-office tracker Sacnilk put gross advance reservations at approximately ₹41.05 crore, including blocked seats. Without blocked seats, the reported figure stands at ₹35.77 crore, reflecting strong interest before the film reaches theatres.
The opening day is leading the advance-booking race. Reports indicate that tickets worth around ₹23.42 crore had been booked for October 15 across 10,025 shows. Advance collections for the next three days were reported to be in the region of ₹6 crore per day.
The numbers have fuelled expectations of a powerful opening for the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster ‘Jailer’. However, the film still has a target to chase if it is to surpass ‘Coolie’, which has reportedly recorded the highest advance-booking collection among Rajinikanth’s films.
Directed by Nelson, ‘Jailer 2’ brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The story follows the retired jailer as he is forced to confront his ruthless past when a fresh underworld threat puts his family and legacy in danger.
Several actors from the original film are returning, including Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, Shivarajkumar, Jaffer Sadiq and Mohanlal.
There is also speculation about Hrithik Roshan’s possible involvement in the film. Reports suggest that the makers have kept the rumoured role under wraps, with no confirmed glimpse of the actor in the recently released trailer.
