HC orders Vishal to repay Rs 21.29 crore to Lyca productions

In a high-stakes legal turn, the Madras High Court has directed actor Vishal to repay Rs 21.29 crore with 30% interest to Lyca Productions.
The ruling further stipulates that until the debt is settled, Lyca retains all rights to Vishal’s films.

Despite the verdict, Vishal has not halted his film commitments — he continues to shoot for his upcoming project ‘Magudam’.

Meanwhile, Lyca has petitioned to enforce the ruling, including placing claims on proceeds from ‘Magudam’.

The dispute traces back to a loan agreement involving Vishal Film Factory and Gopuram Films, later taken over by Lyca.

Vishal allegedly defaulted on repayment and also attempted to transfer rights to third parties, prompting Lyca to approach the courts.

The contention between star ambition and contractual obligations now places Vishal in a delicate position — balancing legal penalties while maintaining his onscreen trajectory.
