In a brief moment of high tension, election flying squads in Chennai intercepted a mini-van carrying 10 AK-47 rifles yesterday morning near Ashok Nagar.
Given the strict Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, the discovery initially triggered a major security alert.
However, subsequent verification confirmed that the weapons were realistic film props intended for a project involving director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The driver, Mahendran, informed officials that the rifles were being transported from Vadapalani for a shoot.
After verifying the necessary permits and documentation from the production house, the flying squad recorded the details and allowed the vehicle to proceed.
