Actor Dhanush has once again found himself at the centre of speculation about a possible political career, but his response to the question was far from a political announcement.
Speaking to reporters in Gujarat after receiving his National Film Awards, Dhanush was asked about the possibility of entering politics, particularly in the wake of actor Vijay’s move into electoral politics.
The actor reportedly responded with laughter rather than offering any indication that he was preparing to enter public life. Questions about Dhanush’s political plans have surfaced periodically, partly because of welfare activities associated with his fan clubs and his appearances at public events. However, he has not announced a political party or confirmed plans to contest elections.
The latest speculation comes after Dhanush received national recognition for ‘Raayan’, which he directed and headlined. While discussing the award, Dhanush had previously acknowledged that he believed other Tamil films released in 2024 were also deserving of recognition. At the same time, he said the honour represented recognition for his work over the years.
Dhanush also received a Special Mention for ‘Captain Miller’. On the acting front, Dhanush’s recent release was ‘Kara’, directed by Vignesh Raja of ‘Por Thozhil’ fame.
His upcoming projects include ‘Om’, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and featuring Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah.
He is also set to appear in projects based on the lives and work of music composer Ilaiyaraaja and former President APJ Abdul Kalam. Other films in his lineup include ‘Thamizh Murugan’, directed by Vetri Maaran, and a collaboration with ‘Lubber Pandhu’ filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu.
