Deepavali 2025: A youthful blast of Tamil cinema fireworks – F’day Spl. Article by Naveen

The festive lights of Deepavali are not just illuminating homes, but also the silver screens of Tamil Nadu. In a pleasant departure from the traditional clash of established superstars, Deepavali 2025 is set to be a spectacle dominated by the energy and fresh narratives of the younger generation of heroes.

This year’s lineup promises a vibrant mix of action, romance, sports drama, and social commentary, offering a cinematic feast for every type of movie-goers. One of the most noteworthy trends this Deepavali is the absence of theatrical releases from the “Big Four” superstars—Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, and Ajith Kumar. This allows the younger talent to take center stage, proving that the festival window is increasingly driven by compelling content.

Here’s a look at the major Tamil films lighting up the box office this festive season (releasing on or around October 17, 2025):

1. ‘Dude’:

The buzz is real for actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan, who has quickly become a youth icon following the massive success of ‘Love Today’.

In Dude, directed by Keerthiswaran and co-starring the charming Mamitha Baiju, Pradeep is expected to deliver another high-energy, quirky story.

Touted as a romantic action-comedy, the film’s trailers hint at a relatable, fast-paced narrative filled with humour, stylized action, and a story about a young man navigating love and its unpredictable turns.

With the fresh pairing and high-spirited promotional material, ‘Dude’ is a frontrunner to capture the festive mood of the youth.

2. ‘Bison’:

A film that has generated significant curiosity is Dhruv Vikram’s ‘Bison: Kaalamaadan’.

Directed by the acclaimed Mari Selvaraj, known for his impactful, socially-conscious filmmaking (Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan), this film is reportedly a gritty, inspirational sports drama.

Dhruv Vikram plays a Kabaddi player, with the story rumored to be based on the life of a Kabadi champion.

Co-starring Anupama Parameswaran and Rajisha Vijayan, ‘Bison’ is anticipated to be an intense, emotionally charged cinematic experience that merges the raw energy of rural sports with a powerful social backdrop.

3. ‘Diesel’:

Adding an action-packed ride to the festival is Harish Kalyan with ‘Diesel’.

Directed by Shanmugam Muthusamy, the film co-stars Athulya Ravi and promises an intense, fast-paced action thriller.

With its focus on intense fight sequences and a plot reportedly centered on a man caught in a deadly web of crime and politics, ‘Diesel’ aims to be the adrenaline rush of the Deepavali weekend.

4. ‘Kambi Katna Kathai’:

‘Kambi Katna Kathai’ is a Tamil comedy directed by Rajanathan Periyasamy, featuring Natarajan Subramaniam (Natty) and Singam Puli in lead roles.

The film follows a witty con artist posing as a spiritual guru, who plans to swindle his followers, only to get entangled in a chaotic emerald heist.

Filled with humor, twists, and confusion, the movie promises an entertaining mix of crime and comedy. Produced by Ravi under Mangatha Movies, it releases in theaters on October 17, 2025.
