The much-discussed Tamil film ‘Bad Girl’ has officially secured its streaming release, set to premiere on Jio Hotstar on November 4th.
The film, directed by debutante Varsha Bharath and presented by acclaimed directors Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, courted significant controversy upon the release of its teaser earlier in the year.
The backlash stemmed from its portrayal of the protagonist, a teenage girl from a seemingly conservative Brahmin household, who explores themes of autonomy, physical relationships, and rebellion against societal expectations.
Critics and conservative groups took objection to this specific portrayal, with the film raising important conversations around female desire and autonomy in Indian cinema.
The post-theatrical run will see the film stream in five languages, making its bold narrative accessible to a wider audience.
