Censor clears ‘Jana Nayagan’ after long delay, release expected on July 24

After a prolonged certification process, ‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has finally received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

It is learnt the H. Vinoth directorial has been awarded an A certificate, making it eligible for release exclusively for adult audiences. The film was originally scheduled to hit theatres during Pongal in January 2026 but was delayed after being referred to the CBFC’s revising committee. The certification process remained pending for nearly seven months before the clearance was issued.

Sources said the film is now expected to release on July 24 across nearly 1,000 screens in the state. Produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan was initially submitted for certification in December 2025. Although the makers reportedly incorporated the changes suggested by the examining committee, the process was held up after objections were raised over certain scenes that were believed to be sensitive.

With the censor hurdle now cleared, the film is finally set for a theatrical release, bringing an end to months of uncertainty and legal proceedings over its certification.
