Veteran filmmaker and actor K. Bhagyaraj was laid to rest with full state honours on Sunday at the Besant Nagar electric crematorium, a day after he passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 73.
Political leaders, film personalities, and members of the public gathered to pay their respects. His body was kept at his Nungambakkam residence before the funeral procession moved through Chennai, where admirers lined the streets to offer floral tributes.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, DMK president M.K. Stalin, actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, along with several ministers and industry colleagues, attended the final rites.
Bhagyaraj’s wife Poornima and son, actor Shanthanu, accompanied the procession, with Shanthanu performing the last rites. A ceremonial 72-gun salute was presented before the cremation.
Bhagyaraj enjoyed a distinguished career spanning decades as an actor, writer, director and producer, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Tamil cinema.
