Movie Review
The film is set in a beautiful village in Thanjavur district. Geetha Kailasam plays the wife of Raju Rajappan, the village headman.
They have a son (Subhash Ramasamy) and a daughter (Rupa Koduvayur). Daughter Rupa suffers from shortness of breath from time to time. For that, she also takes respiratory medicine.
One day, Raju comes home in a rage and beats up his wife Geetha. When his daughter Rupa asks why he beat her, Raju beats up Rupa too.
As a result, Rupa leaves the place crying. Geeta, who wakes up in the middle of the night to drink water, is shocked to see her daughter Rupa has hanging dead from the ceiling. The final rites are arranged.
As night approaches, the village youth try to lift the body for the last rites. Then, unable to lift the body, it becomes too heavy, and everyone runs away when they see the body moving continuously.
When they try to lift the body again, the body sits up with its eyes closed. This causes the entire village to run out of the house.
Why would a dead woman threaten people like this? Why doesn’t Rupa’s soul allow her body to leave the house? That’s the rest of the story of the film.
Director Peppin George gets into the plot of the movie right from the word go, the story doesn’t falter at any point. If you think about it as a story with a corpse, the director has done a great job of bringing out many hidden things within it. There are several sublayers in the story which have been communicated well.
The heroine Roopa Koduvayur carries the essence of the film with her eyes closes. Roopa, who has made her debut in Tamil cinema, has complimented her character very beautifully. There is no doubt that she will definitely have a good run in Tamil cinema.
Also, Raju Rajappan, who plays Roopa’s father, fits the role of the village leader well.
Geetha Kailasam, who has played a mother in many films, brings the character to life by playing the heroine’s mother in this film as well.
Subhash Ramasamy, who plays Roopa’s brother, also delivers an impressive performance in the climax scene.
Narendra Prasad has played a very important role in the film and has done a great job. The romantic chemistry between Narendra Prasad and Roopa in the love song is well worked out. Narendra Prasad makes the audience tear up in the scene where he holds Roopa’s leg and cries.
Sujith Saran’s cinematography can be said to be a great strength of the film. It has captured the proceedings in an interesting manner.
The three songs, composed by Jecin George, do a great job of taking us on a journey with the story. The background music also apt for the theme of the movie.
Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are passable.
