Singapore Saloon

– Review

RJ Balaji comes from a middle-class family in a village. He grows up with his best friend Kishen Das.

While growing up, they see local barber Lal as their enemy as he performs circumcision on Kishen and tonsures Balajis’s head. However, they eventually get to know that Lal is not their enemy.

Eventually Balaji gets inspired by the workmanship of Lal and wants to become a hairstylist.

Seeing Balaji’s interest in the profession, Lal also teaches him the work and tactics.

After several years, Balaji gets married to his college junior Meenakshi Choudhary. He eventually gets an opportunity to start a Saloon and inaugurates it in a grand style.

But things do not go as planned and Balaji starts facing several hurdles. What are the problems and did Balaji overcome  them form the rest of the story.

Director Gokul in his trademark style has taken the story of an underdog, making it big in life by infusing comedy and social messages together.

The comedy in the first half has worked out big time, but the same cannot be said about the second half which has its serious moments.

Gokul has tried to club together too many subplots which hinders the flow of the movie.

RJ Balaji has improved drastically as an actor. He has managed to hold the interest of the audience in a few scenes.

Meenakshi Chaudhary has very little to do and is impressive in the screen time that she gets.

Sathyaraj is one of the biggest positives of this film, Robo Shankar keeps the audience interested through his comedy act after a long time.

Music by Vivek-Mervin gels well with the theme of the movie. Rest of the technical aspects are good as well.
