Stellar 50th for Dhanush
Raayan
– Review
Dhanush is forced to take care of his two brothers and toddler sister after their parents vanish. Dhanush, along with his siblings, escape grave danger from their village and land in North Madras, where they find a home. Years later, Sundeep Kishan is an alcoholic, hot-headed wastrel in the locality, while Kalidas Jayaram is a college-going younger brother.
Dushara Vijayan is the darling of the house, with unconditional love for her elder brother, Dhanush.
Dhanush cautions Sundeep not to get into any sort of trouble. But, Sundeep Kishan’s alcoholic nature lands his family in trouble and claims life after life.
What Dhanush does after this, what happens to the family forms the crux of the movie.
As a director, writer, and actor, Dhanush displays his skills and has managed to keep the audience hooked to the proceedings.
The theme of the film is not new, but how Dhanush has treated it as a writer is different and highly engaging, particularly in the second half, which has plenty of plot twists.
All the characters in the movie are integral to the plot and their arcs has been etched in a way which allows them to show different facets of their acting skills.
Dhanush has yet again delivered his best performance in an action packed role and the way in which he channels his anger.
Sundeep Kishan takes on a significant role and delivers an exceptional performance with his portrayal of a character with grey shades. His scenes with Dhanush and Aparna Balamurali are enjoyable.
Dushara Vijayan is unexpectedly strong in her role, which becomes more intense in the second half.
SJ Suryah, as usual, gives an exemplary performance. Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, and others perform decently in their respective roles.
Prakash Raj and Varalakshmi have also delivered what was expected from them.
AR Rahman has delivered a brilliant background score that really elevates the film. DOP Om Prakash and editor Prasanna GK have also done their part well.
