Shines light on a sensitive topic
Neela Nira Sooriyan
– Review
The movie is a subtle yet strong narrative telling of how the protagonist is received from members around her surroundings, as soon she reveals about the physical change.
Neela Nira Sooriyan is also partly about a student named Karthik (Masanth) who is bullied for his self-expression as a gender-fluid person.
Samyuktha Vijayan who wrote, directed, and starred in the film as Aravind/Bhanu, makes the film not about the outward brutality faced by transgender folks, but one more on the subtle and passive regressive form of unacceptance.
The plot of the movie is subtly staged and carefully stringed moment taken from the perspective of a transperson who is at the stage of experiencing change.
The film effortlessly speaks for the queer community and goes beyond the stereotypical portrayal of brutality imposed on them.
Samyuktha Vijayan who plays both Aravind and Bhanu delivers a solid performance.
The way Samyuktha handles the subtle changes in the role is commendable.
Since, the character is written from her personal experience, the role feels more realistic.
Masanth Natarajan’s does an impressive job in the role. Rest of the cast including Kittty, Gajaraj, Geetha Kailasan and Prasaan Balachandran have all done their part well.
Music by Steev Benjamin is realistic and he has also handled the cameraworks for the film which has come out well. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good.
