“Love Marriage”

– Review

The film follows Vikram Prabhu, a 33-year-old bachelor facing immense pressure to get married.
After numerous rejections, he finally finds a prospective bride, Sushmitha Bhat, from a different caste.
What was supposed to be a straightforward engagement takes an unexpected turn when the COVID-19 lockdown forces Vikram Prabhu’s family to stay at Sushmitha’s rural home for several weeks.
This extended stay, filled with quirky relatives and the complexities of two distinct families under one roof, forms the core of the story, exploring the budding relationship between Vikram Pabhu and Sushmitha amidst traditional expectations and the emotional weight of it all.
Directed by Shanmuga Priyan, the film’s strength lies in its grounded and honest portrayal of arranged marriages in a traditional society.
It doesn’t glamorise romance but focuses on the subtle emotional growth and understanding between the leads.
The characters feel real, and the family dynamics, including the nosy relatives, offer moments of humor and warmth.
Vikram Prabhu delivers a mature and understated performance as Ramachandran. He convincingly portrays the character’s journey from a burdened bachelor to someone who finds his voice and stands up for what’s right. His subtle expressions and relatable struggles are a highlight.
Sushmitha Bhat, as Ambika, brings a quiet strength to her character, conveying emotions effectively through her eyes and subtle reactions. Her chemistry with Vikram Prabhu develops organically, focusing on understanding rather than grand gestures.
Sathyaraj, Meenakshi Dinesh and rest of the cast have delivered their part well.
Sean Roldan’s music generally complements the narrative well, balancing emotional tracks with lighter moments, enhancing the film’s feel-good vibe.
Rest of the technical aspects including cinematography and editing adds more strength to the movie.

Rating: 3.8/5
