Thrills and chills

Iraivan

– Review

Jayam Ravi is a fearless cop known for taking justice into his own hands. His close friend, Narain, also a cop, constantly urges him to control his temper, concerned that Ravi’s approach may endanger them both. Narain enjoys a happy family life with his wife Vijaylaakshmi, sister Nayanthara, and daughter.
However, their seemingly cool lives take a harrowing turn when they are confronted with a chilling case—a psycho-killer who abducts and brutally murders young girls at night.
Narain and his team manage to track down and apprehend the killer, but tragedy strikes as Narain loses his life in the process.
Deeply affected by his friend’s death, Ravi makes the difficult decision to quit the force and dedicate his life to Narain’s family.
However, the serial killer escapes from prison. Can Ravi recapture the killer and bring him to justice forms the rest of the story.
Director Ahmed stays true to the genre and does not have many deviations except for a romantic track with Nayanthara that does not hamper the story much.
After a slow drive in the first hour, the film picks up pace towards the interval and manages to bring in a fine twist.
Jayam Ravi has performed exceptionally well, especially during the emotional scenes. He shoulders the entire movie. Narain does a fine job in the short duration that he appears.
Rahul Bose is terrifying as the villain. Rest of the cast including Nayanthara and Vijayalakshmi have done their part well.
The film is technically strong in terms of cinematography and editing, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music and BGM adds more value to the thrill in the film.
