“Gevi” Movie Review By Naveen

Emotional drama

“Gevi”

– Review

The film is set in a remote hill village near Kodaikanal and revolves around the struggle for justice faced by a couple, Mandharai and Malaiyan.

The story focuses on a pregnant woman going into labor and her husband’s desperate attempt to get her to a faraway hospital, while also being hunted by police due to a past grudge.

It aims to highlight socio-political issues like poor infrastructure, lack of healthcare access, and police abuse in rural areas.

Directed by debutant Tamil Dhayalan, the screenplay, based on true events, is generally compelling and immersive.

Despite the noble intentions, the execution of the movie could have been better.

The lead actors, particularly Aadhavan and Sheela, have delivered natural and impactful performances, with Aadhavan’s emotional portrayal being a highlight.

Rest of the supporting actor including Jacquline and Charles Vinoth have also done their part well.

The film’s visuals by cinematographer Jagan Jaya Surya M and the background score by Balasubramaniam G have enhanced the emotional depth and intensity of the narrative.

Rating: 3.7/5
