After years of ruling the box office, Vijay bids farewell to acting with ‘Jananayagan’, a film that celebrates everything audiences have loved about him over the years. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film blends family drama, action and emotion into a commercial entertainer that serves as a fitting send-off for one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.
The story revolves around Thalapathi Vetri Kondan (Vijay), a former police officer who takes responsibility for the daughter of a close friend after a tragic incident. As she grows up, she dreams of joining the armed forces, but society constantly reminds her of the limitations imposed on women.
Thalapathi Vetri Kondan encourages her to chase her ambition with courage while preparing her to face every challenge that comes her way. However, their lives take a dangerous turn when a powerful businessman with criminal links targets them, forcing Thalapathi Vetri Kondan to return to his old ways to protect his family and uphold justice.
Vijay is undoubtedly the soul of the film. He delivers a measured performance, balancing emotional scenes with his trademark mass moments. Rather than relying only on punch dialogues and action, he brings warmth to the guardian-mentor relationship, making the emotional portions work effectively. His screen presence remains unmatched, and several scenes are clearly designed as celebrations of his cinematic legacy, drawing loud cheers from fans.
Mamitha Baiju delivers a confident performance and shares a convincing rapport with Vijay. Their relationship forms the emotional backbone of the film. Bobby Deol is effective as the antagonist, although his character could have been written with greater depth. The supporting cast, including Pooja Hegde and Prakash Raj, perform their roles well and add weight to the narrative.
Director H. Vinoth packages the film as a wholesome entertainer, giving equal importance to emotion and action. While the screenplay follows a familiar commercial template and some twists are predictable, the director ensures that the narrative remains engaging through well-executed emotional scenes and satisfying mass moments.

The film does have a few shortcomings. Certain portions in the second half feel stretched, and a few supporting characters deserved stronger arcs. Nevertheless, the emotional core and Vijay’s performance ensure that these issues do not significantly affect the overall experience.
