“Aan Paavam Polladhadhu” Movie Review by Naveen

A witty take on modern marriage

“Aan Paavam Polladhadhu”

Review

The movie centers on Siva (Rio Raj) and Sakthi (Malavika Manoj), a contemporary married couple navigating the volatile first year of their marriage.
The primary conflict is rooted in their inability to distinguish between genuine, fundamental differences and mere ego-driven misunderstandings.
Siva is portrayed as a more traditional husband, while Sakthi is a progressive, outspoken feminist.
When their differences escalate into emotional turmoil, Sakthi decides to file for divorce.
The plot takes a witty, dramatic turn as their divorce case is handled by two high-profile lawyers—Narayanan (RJ Vigneshkanth) and Lakshmi (Sheela Rajkumar)—who are themselves a separated couple.
What begins as a straightforward legal separation spirals into an ego-fueled courtroom battle where the lawyers seem more invested in reliving their own past conflicts and scoring points than in resolving their clients’ issues.
The story cleverly uses this setting to deliver social commentary on modern relationships, culminating in an emotional climax that determines whether love can conquer pride.
Debutant director Kalaiarasan Thangavel handles the material with a lighthearted touch, ensuring that the film, despite its heavy theme of divorce, remains a comedy-drama entertainer.
His strength lies in crafting sharp, witty dialogues that drive the humorous face-off between the ‘traditionalist’ husband and the ‘feminist’ wife.
The execution is vibrant and fast-paced, particularly in the courtroom sequences, where the director successfully uses the dual conflict (the clients’ divorce and the lawyers’ past) to create consistent narrative tension and comedic relief.
Rio Raj is convincing as the husband struggling to adapt to his wife’s progressive outlook. He successfully blends vulnerability with stubbornness, making his character relatable to a middle-class audience.
Malavika Manoj shines as Sakthi, bringing energy and sharpness to the feminist role. Her chemistry with Rio Raj, previously noted in Joe, is once again a highlight, providing the emotional core of the film.
RJ Vigneshkanth (Narayanan) and Sheela Rajkumar (Lakshmi) are pivotal, stealing scenes as the sparring, yet familiar, ex-couple lawyers. Their comedic timing and delivery of sharp retorts inject significant humor and satirical depth into the courtroom proceedings.
Siddhu Kumar, who previously collaborated with Rio Raj in Joe, provides a lively and engaging soundtrack. The songs are melodious and well-placed, and the background score is upbeat and effectively complements the film’s romantic and comedic mood, avoiding any unnecessary dramatic weight.
Madhesh Manickam’s cinematography is vibrant and colorful, utilizing bright palettes and clean frames that reflect the urban, youthful setting.
Rest of the technical aspects of the movie help in the flow of the proceedings.
