Aalakaalam – Review

Poison and elixir

Aalakaalam

– Review

Eswari Rao loses her husband to alcohol and she decides to educate her son Jaya Krishnamoorthy.

Jaya Krishna excels in morals and education. These virtues make Chandini fall in love with him which makes other students jealous of Jaya Krishnan.

Soon, Jaya Krishna is pulled into alcoholism which changes the life of Eswari Rao, Jaya Krishnamoorthy and Chandhini.

What happens next in the life of these characters forms the rest of the story.

Jaya Krishnamoorthy has written and directed this movie. The director is clear in his vision of conveying the message of the ill effects of alcoholism on an individual and the other around them.

He has portrayed how alcoholism affects the life of an individual in a realistic manner.

While the plot and the presentation is good, the screenplay could have been a little better.

Jaya Krishnamoorthy plays the lead role in the movie and has effectively translated his writing into emotions and expressions.

He is especially good in the second half where the character suffers from guilt.

Chandhini portrays the role of the helpless girlfriend in a convincing manner.

Eshwari Rao as the loving and caring mother has delivered a fine performance.

Music by N.R. Raghunanthan breathes soul into the movie. Ka Sathyaraj’s camerawork has captured the proceedings in a convincing manner.
