Thalaikoothal
– Review
‘Thalaikoothal’ is the story of a son’s struggle to keep his father alive from those who want to kill him by performing thalaikoothal (senicide of the elderly). Samuthirakani is a dutiful son who takes care of his bedridden father.
Despite their financial situation Samuthirakani tries hard to take good care of his wife Vasundahra and their school going daughter.
With their financial burden mounting, Samuthirakani’s relatives ask him to perform ‘Thalaikoothal’. But Samuthirakani refuses to do it, What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Director Jayaprakash has stayed sincere to the story and has conveyed it without any compromises. The movie is rooted to reality which makes it an engrossing watch.
The film travels in a straight line without any deviations. Samuthirakani steals the show with his natural performance which is powerful. Vasundhara has understood role well and has delivered what was expected from here.
Kathir is impressive in the flashback portions and creates the much needed impact. Rest of the cast including Kalaiselvan, Vaiyapuri and Murugadoss have all done their part well.
Kannan Narayanan’s background score suits the plot well. Martin Donraj’s camera has captured the emotions and village in an effective manner.
