Actress Sri Gouri Priya says her growing connection with Tamil cinema has been one of the most unexpected developments in her acting career.

She recently appeared in the Telugu film ‘Chennai Love Story’, starring alongside Kiran Abbavaram. Tamil audiences, however, have already taken notice of her through the 2024 film ‘Lover’.

A Telugu speaker from Secunderabad, Gouri Priya grew up watching several Tamil films in dubbed versions. She recalls initially enjoying the stories and songs without thinking much about the language barrier.

Her interest in Tamil cinema grew further during the pandemic, when she began watching films in their original language. That experience helped her appreciate the language and the nuances of Tamil filmmaking more closely.

Learning to speak Tamil was initially difficult for her. However, regular conversations with people on film sets gradually helped her gain confidence. She eventually began using Tamil in everyday interactions and found herself becoming increasingly comfortable delivering dialogue.

The actor says her ability to speak Tamil has sometimes led people to assume that she is a Tamil actor who moved into Telugu cinema. She considers the response from audiences in both industries particularly encouraging.

Gouri Priya is now preparing for her next Tamil release, ‘Bro Club’, directed by Karthik Yogi. The film, earlier known as ‘Bro Code’, features Ravi Mohan in the lead and also stars SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Shraddha Srinath and Malavika Manoj.

The actor said she is currently taking some time away from work to recover from an intense period and is selectively considering her next scripts.
