Pothanur Thabal Nilayam

– Review

‘Pothanur Thabal Nilayam’ is the story of how the action of one person leads creates a ripple effect and affects others.

The movie is set in the 1990 and is about the events that take place in two days.

Praveen is an entrepreneur who dreams of making it big in the computer industry. However, he does not get enough support for his idea.

Even his loan applications get rejected as the banks feel that his idea will not workout.

Meanwhile, Praveen’s father gets into trouble as Rs 7 lakh which was under his control goes missing from the office.

Praveen has to prove his father’s innocence within a time span of 36 hours. Was he successful or not forms the rest of the story.

Directed by Praveen, the premise of the movie is very interesting. The era in which the story is set makes it more appealing.

The makers have given utmost importance to recreating the era which is clearly visible on screen.

Praveen does a decent job and plays his part well. Anjali Rao does not have much to do, but impresses in the scenes in which she appears.

Venkat as Praveen’s father is suited well for the role. The movie is technically sound as well. The art direction should be appreciated as most of the set works are very realistic.

Sukumaran’s lens captures the 90s aesthetically and Tenma’s music gels well with the flick.

On the flip side, the running time could have been reduced a bit and the screenplay a little more crispier.

Rating: 3.5/5
