‘Perusu’

 – Movie Review

‘Perusu’ is a story of a dilemma in the death of a father, and how the family dealt with it.
Sunil and Vaibhav are the sons of Alasyam (A) Perusu, who is a well-respected person in the village.
One day, Perusu, who had gone to bathe in the river and returned, dies in a shocking manner. But something ‘awakens’ in him only after his death.
Sunil, Vaibhav’s mother, stepmother, wives, and friend come one by one and are shocked to see the body.
The family writhes in embarrassment, not knowing what to do. They finally decide to final rites without anyone else knowing about the truth behind the body.
Director Elango Ram has tried to give an adult family entertainer without any obscenity. He has remade the film Tentigo, which he directed in Sinhala and received praise at many film festivals, in Tamil. The entire story is surrounding the comedies that take place in a family that gets caught up in a strange problem and the efforts to escape from it.
The plot of the movie is something fresh and the execution is done in a neat manner as well.
There are so many characters in the movie and all of them help in keeping the proceedings in an engaging manner.
As for the performances, Sunil has delivered a top notch performance. Be it in the scenes in which he deals with every problem, struggling to cope with his brother, and talking emotionally about his father, he shines as an actor.
Vaibhav as the alcoholic younger brother has delivered what was expected from him. The combination of Bala Saravanan – Munishkanth is a laugh riot.
The supporting cast of Niharika, Chandini, Dhanam, Deepa, Rama have all done their part well.
The cameos of Karunakaran, Swaminathan, and VTV Ganesh are interesting as well.
Technically, Sundaramoorthy’s background music and Sathya Thilagam’s cinematography are truly impressive and are ably complimented by the rest of the technical aspects.

Rating: 3.75/5
