A movie within a movie
Bioscope
– Review
The 2011 film ‘Vengayam’ directed by Sangakiri Rajkumar was highly praised by journalists, film industry and political figures. But the movie did not fare well at the box office.
At the same time, many newspapers published articles praising director Rajkumar for making the entire film with his family, relatives and villagers.
A popular weekly magazine mentioned that the story of how the movie was made itself can be made as a movie.
This review made Rajkumar write the story ‘Bioscope’ which is about the incidents that inspired him to make the movie ‘Vengayam’.
Director Rajkumar has re-enacted some scenes from ‘Vengayam’ in this movie and has also included many sweet-bitter moments that happened during the filming of the movie.
Just like his previous film ‘Vengayam’, director Rajkumar has utilised the services of his family members and the villagers to make ‘Bioscope’ as well.
Rajkumar, who plays the protagonist, grandmothers Vellaiammal, Muthayi, grandfathers Muthusaami, Kuppusami and rest of the cast including MS Manickam, Indrani, MS Senthil Kumar, Sivarathinam, Periyasamy, Mohanapriya have all lived in their respective characters which makes it easier for the audience to connect with them.
Camerawork by Murali Ganesh is impressive and has captured the proceedings in a raw nature. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are passable.
